Trip details:  Fished early through the fog. Wind was steady and difficult to navigate the kayak. First Red was 17 inches and another around 15 inches. Lost the third red to be estimated to be around 15 inches. Still looking for a keeper Red. I have been to Guana 4 times and each time caught a redfish but I have yet to find a keeper Redfish.

Sunday, March 8

Anglers:  Anthony and Don

Lake location:  Westside, just north of tower

Bait: Dead shrimp and 3" gulp pennys

Trip details:  Don and I put in @ SML about 3pm and stroked our canoe south against a 10 mph south wind. About a mile into the trip, a small mullet jumped into the canoe and nearly landed in Dons lap.We were  both relived by this omen because it took a lot of effort just to get to where we wanted to fish.

After fishing for about 15 minutes I got a jaw dropping hit on my spinning reel. It turned out to be the biggest trout I ever caught. At 23" and a mouth big enough to put my fist in.

That was the the only keeper we caught, but Don pulled in 4 more trout just missing the the mark by an inch or so. I also caught one red @ 17". I believe if we caught these same fish two weeks from now, we would have kept all six.  The two larger fish were caught on dead shrimp, the other 4 trout were caught on 3" gulp penny's.

And yes it was worth the effort!

Catch:

Reds: 1
Trout: 5

Sunday, February 22

Anglers:  Anthony Chila

Lake location:  Northeast end of lake

Bait: Dead shrimp

Trip details:  I got to SML @ 4:00 pm, a 14 knot wind out of the NW kept me within 1/2 mile of the boat ramp,(canoe no motor).

Free lining dead shrimp on 14 lb mono my first red was 24" after about 15 minutes of fishing. What a hoss, it pulled me out of my grass cover into open water for about 100 feet but the wind was too strong.

I was soon back into the grassy shallows where I landed this monster.   I caught two more reds in the next 45 minutes, @ 15" and 19" they were also fun fish to catch.

This was my first trip to Guana, but not my last. What a great place to fish, clean bottom, easy to navigate and aggressive fish.

Catch:

Reds: 3
